French presidential election:an incumbent president joins the race

Three issues dominated public debate in the course of the first two months of the year 2022.The first issue was the multitude of candidates running for the April 10, presidential election.A situation that made political observers to wonder,whether some of the aspirants will cross the threshold of 500 signatures from elected representatives required by the Conseil Constitutionnel or Constitutional Council.However, the third issue raised by the aspirants was the silence of the incumbent president,as to whether he would run or not.

A presidential campaign sidetracked by the war in Ukraine

By the end of February,most of the aspirants were furious about the silence of the president,they consider the sealed lips on his declaration as unfair and a strategy that hinders democratic debate.One section of observers said that the EU presidency factor and the diplomatic footwork on the war in Ukraine are responsible for the  presidential silence.In contrast to another section of observers,who believed that the March 3,deadline fixed by the Conseil Constitutionnel,as the last day for the submission of papers is still a long way.In the first two days of March,the news of a presidential address gave the public the impression that the intention of the president will be disclosed during the speech.It was a surprise to note that there were no references to the election as the declaration focused on the war in Ukraine.

Letter to the French

But after the national declaration political observers disclosed that a letter to the French signed by the president will appear in many newspapers the next day. On March 4,the letter that was published in many newspapers had three points and the first point was on the transformation of the society,threats to democracy and the rise of  social inequalities.The second point reiterated the essence of economic independence and the need to position the nation in the circle of innovative countries in agriculture,in renewable energy and in battery production.At the same time,readers of Lettre aux Francais noted with attention, we didn't succeed in all our ventures as a summary of the work of the government under the first mandate.Who  at the end of the letter will retain, that is why I am requesting your confidence and support for a new mandate,as the third important point.
